There are three types of rug hooking: traditional, punch and latch. Most of our customers hook using a traditional method with strips of wool, and some also punch their designs with yarn or wool.
Latch hooking is different from the other two types. Latch hooking patterns include a grid (typically 1/4 inch squares) and are hooked with short pre cut segments of yarn. Most rug hooking patterns sold in most craft stores are latch hooking patterns, and they often come as a kit with the yarn colors and a color plan.
Our patterns are designed for traditional rug hooking or needle punch hooking, which use strips of wool, or yarn, and typically don't have a "grid" on the backing material, but rather the printed pattern design in a black and white line drawing.
We have a network of traditional and punch rug hooking instructors, mostly in the US and Canada. If you are interested in learning the craft of rug hooking, let us know and we can place you in touch with one of them near you (just let us know the city, and state you are located in, and we can fine on close to you!).
